Chief of Party - Malawi
Abt Associates seeks a Chief of Party (COP) for a USAID-funded Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) project. Based in Lilongwe, the COP will provide leadership, management, and strategic direction to an Abt project team that will continue to implement IRS in several districts in Malawi, and expand IRS into new districts within the next few years. The COP will guide senior technical staff and ensure the responsiveness and quality of all project work, especially with regards to the United States and Malawian Government environmental regulations and the appropriate use of insecticides. The COP will lead all efforts to ensure the efficient use of resources and achievement of results and project expectations. The COP will have final authority within the project team for decisions related to technical, management, and resource allocation and personnel issues and will be accountable for the successful implementation of all aspects of the project.
Requirements:
• Masters degree (minimum) in public health, epidemiology, or other relevant or related discipline.and 10 – 15 years of experience OR Doctorate (preferred) with 12 or more years of experience working in development assistance projects in malaria control programs, specifically in integrated vector control and IRS.
• Experience working in developing countries especially in Africa on IRS projects, and other malaria-related programming.
• Familiarity with USG environmental regulations and the use of restricted insecticides; entomoligical monitoring and IEC/BCC activities related to IRS.
• Ability to work with the Malwaian Ministry of Health, government officials, district health officials, and a diverse group of partner organizations.
• Additional training or experience in tropical medicine, malariology, or parasitology is a plus.
• Ability to provide strategic leadership and technical guidance to large, complex programs.
• Strong abilities in team-building skills, and organizational management.
• Fluency in English, knowledge of Chichewa is a definite advantage.
