The Richard M. Brodsky Foundation, a 501(c) 3 public charity will be sponsoring its second annual 5K AIDS Cancer Run Walk in Cedar Creek Park, Seaford, Long Island on May 31, 2009. Last year the Foundation donated $10,000 in toiletry / gift items to Nassau University Medical Center, Long Island Minority AIDS Coalition (LIMAC), Planned Parenthood of Nassau County and Long Island Association for AIDS Care. The donated items were for people living with breast cancer and HIV. In addition, the Foundation donated $1,500 in toys to children living with pediatric cancer at Schneider Children’s Hospital.

For the 2009 5K Event, LIMAC will be providing free AIDS testing & counseling. The Foundation will be collecting toiletry / gift items for people living with HIV who are clients of LIMAC and Center for AIDS Research & Treatment (CART) at North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) as well as cancer survivors at NSUH. Toys will be collected for children living with pediatric cancer at Schneider Children’s Hospital. The Foundation will be raising money for CART at NSUH in Manhasset. The money would be used for transporting patients for medical services and social gatherings organized by this group. The Foundation will also raise money to start a running club for people living with HIV and / or cancer. These people could only join the club if they join with a healthy person so no one knows who is healthy and who is not.

To Register for the 5k AIDS Cancer Run Walk, click on the following link, http://www.5kaidscancer.com and click on the REGISTER NOW or REGISTER FOR FREE link in the first and second paragraphs. Runners and walkers who sign up online by May 12, will have their names placed on the 5k Commemorative Event T-shirt. Participants who sign up after May 12 or on race day will have their T-shirt mailed to them after the 5K Event.

- Special thanks to redspool.com, Razor’s Edge Collectibles of Valley Stream, Best Buy of Valley Stream and Kings Pharmacy of Long Beach for donating toys for 2009 which have exceeded the $1,500 donation of toys to Schneider Children’s Hospital from last year’s toy drive. The toys will be donated on May 22nd.

Special thanks to President Obama who has written me four letters; President Clinton; Stephen Lewis, UN Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa; Senator Kennedy; Congresswoman McCarthy; Nassau County Executive Suozzi & Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray for their encouraging letters of support, which can be viewed on the World AIDS Marathon website. www.worldaidsmarathon.com.

A $100 donation, if received by May 31, 2009, will entitle you or your company to have your name on the 2009, 5k AIDS Cancer Run Walk, commemorative t-shirt; a $250 donation will entitle you to a logo on the t-shirt. Donations can be made online via the website www.5kaidscancer.com or sending a check made payable to the Richard M. Brodsky Foundation, 1247 Mara Court, Atlantic Beach, NY 11509
