Fw: End mother to child transmission of HIV

Fri, 03/12/2010 - 20:19

Dear ONE Member,
Today is the 100th year of International Women's Day—please join me in marking this occasion by taking action on behalf of women around the world. In the last century, a great deal has changed for many women, however, for those in developing countries change has not been so swift—an estimated 70% of people living in poverty are female and unbelievably every minute a woman dies in childbirth. This is shocking and it is why today we are launching Women ONE2ONE, a campaign unlike anything we've done before.

Fri, 03/12/2010 - 20:19
Its a relief. for the few months it was really a problem for the managers as well as the beneficiaries as vaccines very irregular in supply.

A cross-sectional study on the perceptions and practices of modern and traditional health practitioners about traditional medicine in Dembia district, north western Ethiopia Ragunathan M, tadesse H, tujuba R - Phcog Mag

Fri, 03/12/2010 - 20:19
The study shows that none of the healers has been trained. As a result, improved relevant education is required for both sides. It is essential that researchers and MHPs be educated in both traditional and western medicines in order to perform research appropriately and treat patients effectively. Modern medical practitioners and researchers are required to achieve adequate education and awareness of the practice, principle, and context of TM. Similarly, THPs need to be significantly aware of the nature of practice and strengths of modern medical approaches. MHPs should help THPs in forming an association, leading to better organization among them, which would help in their cooperation with the MHPs. In this manner, both will develop goodwill for each other and consequently, will contribute to their collaboration. The government should also contribute by helping them financially and by arranging training and education, for the improvement of healthcare

NEJM -- Protecting the Children of Haiti

Fri, 03/05/2010 - 15:40
Parents died and families were splintered as a result of the earthquake. In the rush to provide emergency care, injured adults and children were often scattered, taken to the nearest available health care facilities, and sometimes transferred, without records, to other centers. This situation prevailed for a month, during which time little, if any, demographic or registration information was collected at sites of care or settlement. Critical early opportunities to record, identify, and trace children and families were lost. The lack of data has impaired all aspects of child-protection efforts.
